Our Mission & Vision

Student Life cultivates the personal, social and educational development of UIS students by engaging them in leadership opportunities and promoting participation in the campus community. In pursuit of a vibrant community, Student Life fosters campus pride, engages and empowers students, and encourages a sense of belonging.

The Student Leadership Center (SLC) is a vibrant, collaborative hub designed to support student connection, involvement, and leadership development. Located in the Student Union, the SLC features an open, inviting layout with flexible seating, spacious work areas, and access to technology that makes it easy for students to study, meet, and create together.

Traditional Programs & Events

Student Life proudly hosts a series of long‑standing programs and signature events each year that bring the UIS community together, celebrate our traditions, and create memorable experiences for every student.

Welcome Week

Kick off the semester with a week of exciting programs designed to help students connect, explore campus resources, and start the semester with energy and community spirit.

Homecoming

Celebrate your Prairie Star pride with a week of spirited festivities, including campus traditions, student competitions, alumni engagement, and events that highlight the best of UIS.

Springfest

One of UIS’s most beloved traditions, Springfest brings students together for friendly competition, team challenges, creative activities, and community‑building during the spring semester.

Student Government Association & Standing Organizations

The Student Government Association (SGA) at University of Illinois Springfield promotes a democratic and representational form of student government, providing students a forum and opportunities for leadership development. The SGA promotes social, cultural, educational, and recreational activities for students.

Student Activities Committee (SAC)

The Student Activities Committee (SAC) is the primary student‑led programming board responsible for planning fun, engaging, and inclusive events for the UIS campus community. From large‑scale traditions to weekly activities, SAC helps create opportunities for students to connect, relax, and build campus spirit.

Student Organization Funding Association (SOFA)

The Student Organization Funding Association (SOFA) oversees the allocation of student activity funds to Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). SOFA ensures that RSOs have equitable access to financial resources that support events, initiatives, travel, and programs that contribute to a vibrant and active student life at UIS.
