How can I reserve a room at the library?

Note: The only spaces that are currently available to be reserved are BRK 230A - Library Learning Center and BRK 232.

  1. 1. Go to the library website.
  2. 2. Click on "Services" then "Space Requests."
  3. 3. The Space Request page will show you which spaces are available to reserve.
  4. 4. If you want to request BRK 232, submit your request through the UIS Connection System.
  5. 5. If you want to request BRK 230A, click on the button that says "Reserve Here".
  6. 6.On the form, you can select the date and time when you'd like to reserve the room.
  7. 7. Click a bar on the chart so select a time slot. Your booking will immediately appear as orange, and there will be a red padding space automatically generated for cleaning.
  8. 8. You can adjust the time and/or the length of your booking at the bottom of the page.
  9. 9. Now click submit, and you're all good to go!
How can I request a fee/fine to be waived?

We understand that sometimes extraordinary circumstances can affect the return of library materials. As such, we accept requests for fees/fines to be waived. These requests are processed on a case-by-case basis and are subject to the approval of Brookens librarians and staff.

Please note, we do not have overdue fines. Simply return the overdue item and all charges will be waived.

If an item has been lost or damaged and you'd like to submit a fee exemption request, please fill out the form below.

If you'd prefer to speak to someone directly, please contact cring4@uis.edu, or visit the library during operating hours.

How can I request a book from I-Share?
  1. Go to the Library Website (https://library.uis.edu/).
  2. Search for the title, be as specific as you can. Use quotation marks if you know the exact title.
  3. This will open up Ex Libris Discovery. Before you do anything else, log in using your net ID and password.
  4. Select "All I-Share Libraries" and hit search.
  5. Filter appropriately on the left hand side of the screen. Do you need a book? DVD? etc. In this example, I want a book, so I would filter appropriately.
  6. Once you've found the item, selection "See All Versions."
  7. This page will show you all the versions available, choose the one you would like to request. In this case, I want the 2004 version. Now select "Check Available Services.
  8. The next page will provide information about the book. Scroll down and see the I-Share Availability. Under the sub-heading, "Get it from other I-Share Libraries," there will be a list of libraries that have the book available to loan. In this case, there is only one and it's currently out of the library. If you're not happy to wait, find another library.
  9. If they decide to request the book, select "Request from I-Share."
  10. Fill out the following form and hit "Request." Make sure the "Preferred Pickup Institution" is UIS, or somewhere of their choosing. Let the patron know they will receive an email when the book is ready to be picked up.
  11. A Patron can check the status of their I-Share request if they logging into the library search engine.

They can then sign in to their account. And view their requests here where an update will be available. It rarely gives a specific date when their book will arrive.

How can I provide a replacement for a lost/damaged item?

We accept good quality replacements for library materials. These replacements must be identical or newer versions of the lost/damaged item.

If you need more details about the lost/damaged item, you can see your checked-out materials through your library account or you can always contact us.

There are several websites to purchase new/used books. If you purchase a used book, please look for like-new or good condition: Amazon, ABEbooks, ThriftBooks, Alibris, BookFinder, Chegg, and Barnes and Noble

You can search by title or ISBN. If searching by title, please make sure that the versions match or you are purchasing a newer version.

For media or Library of Things items, please submit a lost/damaged claim and we will help you find an acceptable replacement.

Usually, we would like to replace the lost/damaged book with an identical item.

However, it sometimes happens that these materials are difficult to source, no longer available, or no longer relevant. In this case, we may accept different editions or different books on the same subject. This is dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Before ordering these items, please consult our staff via phone or email.

If you order a replacement online, you can have it shipped to our mailing address:

1 University Plaza, MS BRK 140
Springfield, IL 62703

Or if you prefer to just pay a replacement fee, let us know and we will send the charge to the Cashier's office. For information about how to view (https://answers.uillinois.edu/page.php?id=90452) or pay your fees, please contact the Cashier's office.

How can I make an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request?

You can make an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request as a UIS student, faculty, or staff member when a book is unavailable from Brookens Library and I-Share or when an article is unavailable in one of Brookens Library's databases.

Please watch the videos below for step by step instructions on requesting Interlibrary Loan (ILL) materials.

Can I return my books to other I-Share libraries?

Yes, you may return books to other I-Share libraries. Practices for dropping off materials will vary depending on the library. (This does not apply to ILL books, which must be returned to the same location they were picked up at.)

A list of I-Share libraries/p>

Can I renew a DVD?

No. The checkout period for all library patrons for DVDs is 7 days with no renewals. You can check out the same DVD multiple times however, if you see it on the shelf later.

Can I print using cash at the library?

Absolutely! If you want to print but don't have an i-card to swipe at the printers, send your document to the printer as usual then come up to the front desk. Let the person at the front desk know what you named your print job and bring the appropriate cash. Printing costs are $0.10 per page for black and white and $0.25 per page for color printing.

We can make change. The worker at the front desk will provide you with a receipt.

Will my credits transfer?

Our Admission team will work closely with you to apply as many of your credits as possible toward a UIS degree. Transfer work must be similar in nature, level, and content to courses at UIS. Credit for transfer courses is either applied as direct equivalents or applied to a degree in a manner determined by the department and college. Learn more about transferring credits.

Can I continue my bachelor's degree at UIS?

UIS offers 49 bachelor’s degrees, so we can help you continue your education without missing a beat. In many cases, UIS has a degree that aligns with your area of study. If there’s not an exact equivalent, we’ll work with you to find a degree that matches your interests and goals and maximizes your college credits and experience. You will earn a University of Illinois degree, joining more than 740,000 living alumni across the globe, including teachers, entrepreneurs, artists, researchers, business leaders, and Nobel Prize winners.
