Estimated Cost of Attendance (COA)

Financial Aid Offer Notifications must list anticipated expenses students may incur during the academic year. The total COA is an estimate, not the actual price you will pay, and costs will vary. The estimated Cost of Attendance is subject to change based upon University of Illinois Board of Trustees approval of tuition and fees, and other external factors.

The tuition and fee amounts are based on full-time enrollment. Students who are less than full-time will have reductions in their COA based on enrollment status. Undergraduate tuition rates are guaranteed for 4 years; therefore, students will have different tuition rates based upon term of entry and type of student.

Total financial aid offered may not exceed the estimated Cost of Attendance.

Example COA, or financial aid budgets, may be viewed below. For specific tuition and fee expenses per credit hour, please use the Tuition & Fee Calculator.

Direct vs Indirect Costs

  • Direct Costs are paid to the university and include tuition and differential, fees, and housing and food for students living on campus.
  • Indirect Costs are anticipated expenses students may incur. These costs include books and supplies, travel, and miscellaneous personal expenses. Housing and food are indirect costs for students living off campus.

Estimated Net Cost Worksheets

Use these worksheets to compare your estimated cost of attendance with your expected financial aid to determine your out of pocket expenses. Worksheets for 2026-27 will be published by early spring when official tuition and fees rates are expected to be set.
