Canvas Commons is a learning object repository that enables instructors to share content created in Canvas. The content can be entire courses, a page, a module, a quiz, an assignment or a discussion. Content can be shared with only others at UIS or with the entire Canvas community. Learn more about Canvas Commons and how to search for resources and share resources to Canvas Commons.
How to import Canvas Commons resources into your course
Locate Canvas Commons resources created at UIS
- Click on Commons in the blue global menu in Canvas.
- In the search box, type "University of Illinois Springfield."
- A list of materials shared by UIS Canvas users is displayed.
- Click on the name of the item that you wish to import into your Canvas Course.
- Click on the blue "Import/Download" button on the right side of the screen.
- Check the box next to the name of the course to which you wish to add the item.
- Click on the "Import into Course" button.

If you don't have Canvas Commons open in another tab, these links will take you to a generic Canvas login screen and not the resource.
Syllabus Template
The UIS syllabus template language is available on Canvas Commons for you to import into your course.
Home Page Templates
Template 1 features Canvas course navigation links, instructor information page, and a listing of all modules and their contents. The module listing can be set up to automatically show where the student left off if you use certain modules settings or to change by date.
Features Canvas navigation links, a welcome section, and links to individual modules on the modules page. These module links are designed update to automatically match your course.
Features links to Canvas navigation, instructor information page, and calendar buttons to the syllabus and 16 modules (must updated button links for your course).

Home page 7 features a large page title area for courses with longer titles or courses that may be cross listed. It also includes Canvas navigation links, a start here content area, instructor content information, and buttons to individual Canvas modules.
Home page 8 features page title text that overlays the banner image, Canvas navigation links, an about your instructor page, and and automatically updating course modules list of titles.
