Those who wish to apply (and subsequently audition) to be this year’s student commencement speaker must submit the online Student Speaker Application form by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025. If you have any questions, please email commencement@uis.edu.

Attention all Graduating Students Who Plan To Participate in Commencement 2025!
Students graduating in Spring 2025 or Summer 2025 must submit an online Graduation Application via Student Self-Service (https://apps.uillinois.edu/ - “Graduation” tab) by the deadlines listed below:
Students graduating in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 must submit an online Graduation Application via Student Self-Service (https://apps.uillinois.edu/ - “Graduation” tab) by October 7, 2024 (Fall 2024) or February 21, 2024 (Spring 2025). Students MUST be sure to verify that all curriculum information is listed accurately BEFORE submitting an online Graduation Application (including major, minor, concentration, etc.).
Students graduating in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 must submit an online Graduation Application via Student Self-Service (https://apps.uillinois.edu/ - “Graduation” tab) by October 7, 2024 (Fall 2024) or February 21, 2025 (Spring 2025). Students MUST verify that all curriculum information is listed accurately BEFORE submitting an online Graduation Application (including major, minor, concentration, etc.).
Students graduating in Summer 2024 or Fall 2024 must submit an online Graduation Application via Student Self-Service (“Graduation” link) by July 1, 2024 (Summer 2024) or October 7, 2024 (Fall 2024). Students MUST be sure to verify that all curriculum information is listed accurately BEFORE submitting an online Graduation Application (including major, minor, concentration, etc.).

University of Illinois Springfield Chancellor Janet Gooch wrote a column about commencement that was published by The State Journal-Register on May 3, 2024. This is a short excerpt:
