April 1st is National Walking Day and Campus Recreation created an opportunity for our campus to get moving. We wish to invite our staff and faculty to participate! The 1-mile walk has been rescheduled and will begin at noon on 4/6 and will both start and end at the Colonnade while showcasing our beautiful campus along the walk. This is an event for students and all employees to attend as a campus community. Make sure to arrive early and sign up for the raffle before the walk begins!

The Annual Evaluation Process for Academic Professional and Civil Service employees has begun!  Human Resources is pleased to present an updated electronic version of the Annual Performance Evaluation to be used as of April 1, 2026.

Take Your Child to Work Day

Registration is still open for Take Your Child to Work Day on April 23, 2026! We have a full afternoon planned that includes a dorm tour, exercise science activity, E-sports, and more. We welcome up to 20 kids, aged 10-15 years old (7-9 years old with a parent present), to come and join us as we explore UIS.

As part of the university’s NorthStar strategic visioning initiative, the University is announcing a Voluntary Separation Plan (UIS-VSP) available for all employees who meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the plan including that they have satisfied the retirement age and service requirements under the State Universities Retirement System of Illinois (“SURS”) prior to August 15, 2026 and who have not provided a written notice of resignation or intent to retire from UIS prior to the Plan Effective Date.

Latest Information

The most recent bargaining session with the federal mediator between the University and the clerical, service and technical civil service staff of UPI Local 4100 was held Tuesday, April 7, 2026. Prior to confirming any future sessions, the union left the session. The University stands ready to schedule additional dates and times to meet with the union and is hopeful that the parties can come to an agreement that serves the best interests of our entire university community.

The most recent bargaining session ​between the University and the Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty Chapter of UPI Local 4100 took place Wednesday, ​​April ​​8​​​​​, and lasted​​​​​​​ 4.5​​ ​hours.​ ​Several package proposals were exchanged during the session​​​. ​UIS and the union are scheduled to meet again on ​Thursday, April 9.​​​

Employee Development Series: Annual Evaluation Training

The March installment of the Employee Development Series will be on Annual Evaluations presented by Kenzie Filchak and Drew Schlosser on March 31, 2026, from 9 to 11 a.m. Information from this session will be most beneficial to supervisors, but all are welcome to attend. Topics covered in this session include form functions, preparing for the evaluation discussion with employees, and avoiding evaluation pitfalls. The evaluation season will begin April 1, 2026, with evaluations due June 5, 2026.
