New UIS Sangamon Experience exhibit tells the history of underrepresented people in central Illinois

“The Struggle for Change,” a new exhibit by the University of Illinois Springfield’s Sangamon Experience, will tell the history of underrepresented people in central Illinois when it opens on Jan. 12 on the lower level of the UIS Public Affairs Center. The exhibition will run through Sept. 6.

Former U.S. Ambassador Charles Ray to speak at UIS

WHAT: The University of Illinois Springfield will host former U.S. Ambassador Charles Ray who will speak about a new report, “Blueprints for a More Modern U.S. Diplomatic Service.” The report includes recommendations on ways the United States can improve its diplomacy. The program is sponsored by the UIS School of Politics and International Affairs and the World Affairs Council of Central Illinois. The event is open to the public.

UIS Center for State Policy and Leadership to showcase its important work

The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is pleased to present “A Public Commons,” a project building on UIS' history of being an institution focused on openness, innovation and adaptability. The project recreates “the pit,” a popular 1970s Sangamon State University (now UIS) classroom known for its lack of desks and chairs.
