The Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries of Illinois (CARLI) is pleased to announce the availability of its application for the CARLI Member OER Initiative. This OER Initiative will provide financial support to CARLI member libraries to increase the awareness and use of Open Educational Resources (OER) at their institutions. Each CARLI member library may submit one proposal 

What type of research do you do and what fascinates you about it?

Growing up, I was drawn to environmental issues, likely influenced in part by my mother's own interests in environmental issues. That early interest led me to study biology as an undergraduate and later earn a doctorate in molecular biology. Over time, my work evolved to bridge both fields.

Can you give us a brief timeline of how my career led me to UIS?

I chose a career in higher education inspired by my own experience as a first-generation college student. That journey shaped my professional purpose: helping every student see that educational opportunities are within their reach.

What do you like about your job?

My job includes a mix of behind-the-scenes planning and direct work with students, which keeps things interesting. Part of my role focuses on shaping the library’s resources — helping decide what books, journals and digital materials best support teaching and research. I also work on issues related to scholarly publishing and how research is shared and accessed.

Phone Service Outage: Receiving Calls from Outside UIS

We are currently experiencing a hardware failure that is affecting campus phone service. At this time, outgoing calls and internal office‑to‑office calls are functioning normally. However, we are unable to receive incoming calls from outside UIS.

Replacement hardware is scheduled to arrive tomorrow morning. We will send a follow‑up email once full phone service has been restored.
