University Communications, part of the Department of Strategic Communication, serves as the university’s official voice. We help tell the UIS story and share important information with students, employees, the media and the public. The office leads media relations, social media, internal communications and crisis communications.
We coordinate university-wide communications to students and employees through official channels, including Orbit, email, newsletters and other campus platforms. We also support executive communications for the Office of the Chancellor and help campus units plan and share messages that need to reach the broader UIS community.

Our Work
Media Relations
We work with news organizations to share UIS stories and coordinate interviews with faculty, staff and students. We also write and distribute news releases and advisories to the media.
Social Media
We manage the university's official social media accounts and create content that promotes the university and engages our audiences. We also provide oversight and guidance for the use of social media by campus units.
Internal Communications
We coordinate official university communications to students and employees through channels including Orbit, email and newsletters.
Crisis Communication
We lead crisis communications, providing timely information during incidents affecting the university community. This includes maintaining the UIS Crisis Communication Plan.
Executive Communication
We write and coordinate executive communications for the chancellor and other university leaders, helping communicate key priorities, decisions and messages to internal and external audiences.
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
We assist with Freedom of Information Act requests in coordination with the University of Illinois System.
