Helpful Tips on Common Appliances

Refrigerator/Freezer:

  • Appliance works best:
    • Do not block vents in the refrigerator or freezer sections. Overfilling and blocking the vents will prevent food from cooling or freezing.
    • Fill with food you are going to use within a 7-day span. Do not overload with food.
    • Adjust the thermostat setting in the middle and not to the highest position. Over freezing and over working units will cause the appliance to stop functioning normally.

Our dedicated unionized staff of trades and building service workers are here to help you live comfortably and safely on campus at the University of Illinois.

Residence Life Facilities staff handle work order requests for the areas and are available Monday to Friday from 8am until 4pm. After hours and weekend staffing is only available for emergency matters needing our attention and is classified as “Call Out” services.

When packing, remember not to bring everything you own. You’ll be sharing a cozy 12’ x 15’ space, so pack smart. Connect with your roommate and suitemates before move-in to coordinate larger items or shared furnishings. A little planning now can save space and stress later.
