As UIS progressed from Academic Reorganization to Academic Revitalization, funds were made available to implement initiatives to increase enrollment at UIS. The Adjunct of the Year Award at UIS recognizes the teaching accomplishments of UIS adjunct (per course) faculty member who has taught a minimum of four semesters at UIS in the previous three years.

The University of Illinois Springfield held a Faculty Honors Reception on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Interim Chancellor Karen Whitney and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost Dennis Papini presided over the ceremony.
Four major awards – the Pearson Faculty Award, the Spencer Faculty Service Award, the Faculty Excellence Award and the Burks Oakley II Distinguished Online Teaching Award - were presented.

To recognize leadership, accomplishments, and excellence in scholarship activities of tenured faculty. Although the scholarship may fit traditional notions of the scholarship of discovery, applicants who exemplify scholarship of application or integration are encouraged to apply.
One award of a non-instructional assignment (NIA) is given each year, to be used the following fall or spring semester. Recipients should coordinate with their department chair/head to schedule the NIA.
To recognize the teaching accomplishments of non-tenure system faculty.
One $1,000 award for developmental purposes (conference attendance, research-related travel, commodities/supplies, subscriptions, equipment) will be given each year.
Non-tenure system full-time faculty are eligible to be nominated for this award.
UIS faculty colleagues may submit nominations for this award. No self-nominations are allowed.
To recognize faculty leadership, accomplishments, and excellence in professional activities that contribute to the institutional mission of increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion, counteracting inequality and inopportunity, and contributing to struggles for inclusion of minority, marginalized, and/or historically under-represented groups.
