The purpose of the English as a Second Language endorsement provides current Pk-12 teachers with skills and competency needed to teach effectively in an English as a Second Language environment. Successful completion of the program may lead to an English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) for students holding a current Illinois teaching license, or an ESL graduate certificate for professionals meeting the needs of diverse non-English speaking students within ESL classrooms.
