Master of Arts in Education Degree Seeking Applicants

Online Application

You will complete and submit the online application at the UIS Graduate Admissions website for the term in which you seek to begin the program. When completing the application, be sure to select the Master of Arts in Education program.

International Test Scores

UIS required TOEFL scores for graduate admission consideration are 550 for those who speak English as a second language.

Baseline IELTS overall scores for graduate admission consideration are 6.0.

OPTIONAL: GRE Scores

GRE scores are not required for admissions to the School of Education Graduate programs. However, you may submit them as supplementary material.

Principal Endorsement Seeking Applicants

Principal Endorsement

UIS requires transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended, regardless of if a degree was conferred. You will find direction on submitting transcripts within the application. Applicants must have an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0. for full admission.

Transcripts must show a master’s degree was earned for students wanting principal endorsement only.

  • Valid and current teaching license (e.g., early childhood, elementary, secondary, special K-12, or special preschool-age 21) or school support personnel license.
  • Must teach at least two years before receiving the principal endorsement.
  • A copy of a current Illinois teaching license or school support personnel license or an entitlement page from
  • ELIS that shows these must be included in the applicant’s portfolio.
  • Applicants must receive a passing score on the test of basic skills if they have not been required to take the test
  • prior to getting their Illinois teaching certificate.
  • If admitted conditionally for low GPA the student must achieve a GPA of 3.0 or better in the first eight hours of
  • course work in the EDL Program. If a student achieves the required GPA within those first eight hours, he or she will be fully admitted to the program.

Superintendent Endorsement Seeking Applicants

Superintendent Endorsement

You will complete and submit the Non-Degree & Certificate Programs Application Type at the UIS Graduate Admissions website for the term in which you seek to begin the program. When completing the application, be sure to select the program in which you are interested in applying.

  •           Valid and current teaching license and Illinois principal endorsement 
  •       2 years full-time administrative or supervisory experience
  •           Undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 (GPA of 2.75-2.99 – conditional admission with B average in first two program courses)
  •           Submit official transcripts to UIS Admissions & Records Office (master’s degree and principal endorsement included)
