The start of a new semester brings fresh energy, new goals and the promise of opportunity. However, as we move forward together this fall semester, it’s important to recognize that some members of our university community may be experiencing stressors or other challenges associated with recent tensions amid a shifting broader climate. 

In uncertain times, staying connected and reaching out for support can make all the difference. I want to remind all students, faculty and staff of our available resources:

Last week, Cabinet held a retreat at the Lake Springfield Field Station. It was a great opportunity for each member of the Cabinet to share their progress on top priorities and discuss our individual and collective goals for the Fall 2025 semester.

Following President Killeen’s June 25 announcement, this message confirms the 1% merit-based salary program for the 2025-26 academic year. The 1% merit-based salary program is to be distributed at the discretion of the unit head. Division heads will identify the unit head for each area based on operational responsibility.

Dear colleagues —

I’m pleased to share that the UIS Innovation Center will lease space at Horace Mann’s downtown Springfield campus to expand programs that support economic development in the region. The 2.5-year lease will allow the center to broaden programming and services focused on innovation, entrepreneurship and collaboration. The move is expected to be completed by September.

Dr. Vickie Cook, vice chancellor for enrollment and retention management, has shared her intention to retire from UIS on March 1, 2026.
