Diploma/Certificate

When the former Sangamon State University became the third campus of the University of Illinois in 1995, many alumni expressed the desire to obtain replacement diploma certificates reflecting the new identity of the institution. UIS diploma certificates, with a presentation cover bearing the seal of the University of Illinois, are currently available through the Office of Advancement for a $35.00 processing fee. SAGE Society

The Alumni SAGE Society is a group of University of Illinois Springfield/Sangamon State University alumni and friends ages 50 and better. The group offers opportunities for Service, Action, Growth and Enrichment, as alumni and friends connect and reconnect with one another and the University community.

The Alumni SAGE Society and the Illinois State Historical Society partner to provide thought-provoking, expert-led Lunch & Learn programs each fall and spring. These lunch-time programs include a hot lunch, and new and interesting topics each session. View our calendar of events to see topics for our latest Lunch & Learn Series.   • Illinois Connection Advocacy Network
    • Illinois Connection is the University of Illinois Alumni Alliance’s legislative advocacy network. Its mission: to gain greater federal and state support for the University of Illinois’s three campuses as well as their interests. By increasing awareness and understanding of the U of I’s positive impact on the state, nation and world, Illinois Connection advocates help to ensure the University’s legacy and longevity.

  • Sangamon Auditorium Volunteer Association
    • Join a trained corps of more than 235 volunteer ushers to greet, direct, assist and ensure the safety and comfort of patrons attending performances and other events at Sangamon Auditorium and the Studio Theatre.   • Volunteer and Civic Engagement
    • Present to first-year students on the topics of leadership and service to students in the Leadership for Life service program. We also welcome professionals with experience in one of our five areas of service: youth and education, hunger and homelessness, public health, community awareness, and sustainability.

  • College of Education and Human Services Alumni Council
    • The CEHS Advisory Board advocates and supports the growth and development of the College’s educational programs.  Members of the board actively participate in identifying sources of financial support, provide insight into new education and human services practices, and suggest improvements and opportunities for the College and its programs to grow and meet the needs of the local community and beyond.  For more information, please email the CEHS Office Administrator(link sends email).
  • International Student Services
    • Regular, on-going Host Family program that can greatly use more volunteers.
    • Help with various activities for the annual International Festival.

Alumni Borrower Card

UIS Alumni are eligible for a local UIS borrowing card which can be obtained by requesting a library card. By presenting this card they may check out any of the general circulation items for an initial loan of four weeks with three renewals, and one title from the Video/DVD collection for one week with no renewals. They may not request items through I-Share or regular interlibrary loan. Alumni can use electronic resources in person at the library, but they do not have remote access to licensed databases.

Terminology for Alumni

Alumni – evolved to become gender neutral – refers to a group of comprised of more than one gender who have completed their studies, esp. at a college or university; can also be used to refer to a group of men only.   

Alumnae – a group of women, who have completed their studies, esp. at a college or university.      

Alumna - a woman who obtained a diploma from a school, usually high school level or above; a woman who is a graduate or former student of a school, college, or university.

Alumnus - a man who obtained a diploma from a school, usually high school level or above; a man who is a graduate or former student of a school, college, or university.

Alum – An inclusive slang term for a graduate of a university or other institution…the term Alum has fluidity, though, as recognition of non-binary individuals continues to evolve.
