UIS Style Writing Guide

Language is always evolving and, for the most part, grammar, style, and usage can't be presented as simply black and white. Any number of style guides and reference books are available today; they don't always agree with each other, but that's all right.

Media Strategy

The UIS Office of Media Strategy, part of the Department of Strategic Communication, serves as the university’s official voice through traditional media relations and social media integration. The office responds to media inquiries and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests; issues university press releases; tells the UIS story through video, social media and web content; and manages the official UIS top-level social media channels.

The University of Illinois Springfield will honor Mark and Julie Staley of Springfield with the University of Illinois Foundation’s William E. Winter Award for Outstanding Advocate Leadership during a virtual Celebration of Philanthropy.

The Zoom webinar will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 3. All are invited to attend the free virtual event by registering in advance at go.uis.edu/CoP21.

The University of Illinois Springfield Innovation Hub, UIS Center for State Policy and Leadership and the Community Health Roundtable will host a free public webinar titled “Impact of COVID-19 on our Youth: Learning, Playing & Socializing” at Noon Friday, Feb. 19 via Zoom.

The University of Illinois Springfield will hold a virtual Graduate School Week Feb. 22-26, 2021. The week will give students who are thinking about earning a master’s degree a chance to learn more about UIS’ 21 graduate programs.

The University of Illinois Springfield has released the Dean’s List for Fall Semester 2020. A total of 711 students were selected; 85 are students in the College of Business and Management, 59 are students in the College of Education and Human Services, 463 are enrolled in programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, 71 are enrolled in programs in the College of Public Affairs and Administration and 33 are non-degree seeking or undecided.

On Campus Events

The Department of Strategic Communication has created this guide in an effort to help student organizations and departments at the University of Illinois Springfield better promote their on campus events. Below are resources available to student organizations and departments, which can help in educating the UIS community about events on campus.

Nearly 900 University of Illinois Springfield students returned to campus for the start of Fall Semester 2020 classes during Move-In Week, held Aug. 17-21.

All students were required to pre-register for a move-in time slot in order to reduce congestion and support physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
