The University of Illinois System strives to enable all employees to contribute to a safe and welcoming working environment conducive to the education of students. To foster such an environment, the U of I System has determined that it is vital to consider whether a candidate for employment has been found to have engaged in Sexual Misconduct or Sexual Harassment in the course of prior employment.
Professional and supportive relationships among faculty or staff and students are at the heart of the education and research missions of the University of Illinois System. Indeed, faculty and staff routinely and effectively serve as mentors, advisors, role models and teachers both in and out of the classroom. This policy in no way is intended to interfere with such professional relationships.
The University of Illinois at Springfield will not tolerate sexual harassment and is committed to providing and preserving an atmosphere free from harassment in any form.
All employees and students have the right to work and study in an environment free from sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is a violation of professional ethics and impedes the primary function of a university.
Even on days when classes are canceled or the Springfield campus is declared closed due to inclement weather or other extraordinary situation, the university must provide minimal, adequate staffing in “essential services.” It is up to the division heads to make sure such services are provided.
Employees providing those services are required to report to work if so informed by their supervisors.
Employees in professional, semi-professional and management civil service classifications may utilize working titles in accordance with this policy.
The employing unit must submit the requested working title to Human Resources for review and approval. Once approved, the working title can be utilized in the future for the same position.
The University recognizes that efforts to retain Academic Professional and Civil Service staff, providing exemplary service, who have received a job offer outside of University of Illinois Springfield may be warranted in limited situations as described by this policy. The University also recognizes that there are financial limits to its ability to make counteroffers and must be aware of the impact that such offers can cause in the salary structure on campus.
