There's never a dull moment on the Prairie, and this week is no exception as the Prairie Stars gear up for another busy stretch of competition. It's a big week of home basketball, with both the women's and men's teams hosting Lincoln and UMSL at TRAC, while Track & Field sends a duo to Boston for the John Thomas Terrier Classic. Tennis and Softball also officially kicks off their seasons.

The UIS men's track team posted seven personal records at the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic Friday, with strong contributions from transfers and freshmen leading the way.

Senior transfer Will McGonigal ran 8:37.96 in the 3000m, finishing 11th, while freshman Charlie Borlin, the No. 2 GLVC freshman from the cross country championships in the fall, set a PR of 8:41.40 in the same event, placing 13th. Junior transfer Owen Whelan also notched a PR in the 3000m at 8:44.58, giving UIS three top-16 finishes in the distance.

The basketball doubleheader between UIS and Missouri S&T, originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24 at Missouri S&T, has been postponed due to expected inclement weather.

The doubleheader has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, with the women's game tipping off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m. at Missouri S&T.

The decision was made to ensure the safety of participants, officials and spectators as winter weather warnings are in effect for the area.

The University of Illinois Springfield has canceled the UIS Baseball and Softball First Pitch Event scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, due to forecasted winter weather and below-freezing temperatures in the Springfield area.

With a winter storm warning in effect and snow expected throughout the weekend, the decision was made to prioritize the safety of student-athletes, staff, and attendees.

UIS Athletics has announced the hiring of Colin Wood as the first head coach of its new women's flag football program. Wood will begin his role in early February, leading the Prairie Stars as they build their inaugural roster and lay the foundation for a spring 2027 season of competition.

Illinois Springfield men's basketball (12-6, 8-2 GLVC) overcame a 19-point deficit to pull away from Drury (8-10, 3-7 GLVC), 87-72, on Thursday night at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. The Prairie Stars outscored the Panthers 54-37 in the second half, fueled by strong inside scoring and efficient shooting that carried them to victory.

Illinois Springfield women's basketball fell on the road Thursday, dropping an 81-49 decision to Drury at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. The Prairie Stars led after one quarter, but the Panthers used sustained runs in the middle quarters to pull away.

UIS will have representation in sprint, distance, and field events. The Prairie Stars' sprint group will be competing in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes.

UIS will be represented primarily in the middle-distance and distance events. The Prairie Stars are scheduled to compete four athletes in the 800 meters, including junior Finn Loken, senior Brock Loftus, and freshmen River Derby and Chase Cooley.
