Model United Nations Club (MUN) gives students the opportunity to participate in a simulation of the United Nations General Assembly and attend the annual National Model United Nations Conference in New York each spring.

UIS students in MUN partake in the United Nations simulation where resolutions are discussed, debated, and voted upon by all countries represented in the council and committees. The simulations are as close to reality as possible. Each delegation attempts to take on the character, as well as the policy, of its assigned country and peace treaties, caucuses, and walk-outs by dissatisfied delegates are frequent.

Student involvement in MUN begins in the fall each year, as the UIS delegation begins to form and members gather information about the country they will represent. In the spring, the delegation submits resolutions to the National MUN and attends the conference in New York.

For more information please reach out to the MUN faculty Co-Advisors: Professor Adriana Crocker and Professor Ali Nizamuddin.

Earning College Credit with Model United Nations

Students in MUN can also earn college credit through PSC 478: National Model United Nations (1 credit hour) and PSC 483: Model United Nations (3 credit hours).  In the fall, MUN students can enroll in PSC 478 where they will work to form the UIS delegation and members will begin to gather information about the country they will represent.  In the spring, MUN students can enroll PSC 483, and the delegation will submit resolutions to the National MUN and attend National Model United Nations Conferences in New York, where resolutions are discussed, debated, and voted upon by all countries represented in the council and committees.
