Thank you for your interest in learning more about the Capital Scholars Honors Program at the University of Illinois Springfield. Our selective program is centered on an engaging, interdisciplinary, curriculum that challenges students to think critically and appreciate the complexities of today’s society. We no longer live in a world where knowing and communicating one discipline is enough; rather being able to communicate across disciplines and understanding varying perspectives is vital to effective problem solving.
We expect our students not only to acquire knowledge but also to gain an appreciation for cultures other than their own. We expect our students to epitomize “Leadership Lived” and to evolve into role models and leaders that have an effect not only on campus, but also in the community and beyond. We expect our students to be able to articulate opinions and facts clearly and concisely in both the written and public form. We expect our students to be curious and to be life-long learners. All of these expectations are fostered through discussion based seminar-style courses, a residential living-learning community, undergraduate research projects performed under the guidance of talented faculty, study abroad experiences, and abundant campus involvement opportunities.
If this sounds like an environment that will help you meet your expectations of yourself, we’d love to hear from you. Should you have any questions about the Program, the curriculum, or anything else as you explore the website, please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of our excellent staff. We hope you will consider the University of Illinois Springfield and the Capital Scholars Honors Program as you move forward with your education. We look forward to seeing you in the next incoming class.
Sincerely,
Marc A. Klingshirn, Ph.D.
