University of Illinois Springfield Chancellor Janet Gooch wrote a column about commencement that was published by The State Journal-Register on May 3, 2024. This is a short excerpt:
"Next weekend, I'll stand on the stage of Sangamon Auditorium shaking the hands of more than a thousand University of Illinois Springfield graduates poised to start new chapters in their lives. Many of our students have jobs awaiting them, while others plan to continue their education or explore the many opportunities their degrees will unlock.
Students graduating in Spring 2024 or Summer 2024 must submit an online Graduation Application via Student Self-Service (https://apps.uillinois.edu/ - “Graduation” tab) by the deadlines listed below:
Students graduating in Fall 2023 or Spring 2024 must submit an online Graduation Application via Student Self-Service (https://apps.uillinois.edu/ - “Graduation” tab) by October 2, 2023 (Fall 2023), or February 16, 2023 (Spring 2024). Students MUST be sure to verify that all curriculum information is listed accurately BEFORE submitting an online Graduation Application (including major, minor, concentration, etc.).

As we are about to wind down the semester and students look forward to graduation, many students are still contemplating going to graduate school, taking some time off, traveling abroad or taking a new job or their first career-oriented job!
Commencement day is almost here! Please read the following info to be fully informed.
When/Where
Saturday, May 13, 2 p.m.| Bank of Springfield Center in downtown Springfield.
Arrival
Arrive between 1 and 1:30 p.m. The doors will close 15 minutes prior to the ceremony; you will not participate if you arrive after the doors close. Give yourself ample time for traffic, finding a parking spot and walking to the BOS Center. There are other events the same day downtown, so parking might take extra time.

UIS is hosting one Commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Bank of Springfield Center in downtown Springfield. The ceremony will last approximately 1.5 hours.
