Dr. Beverly Bunch Speaks at Public Pension Funding Webinar

Dr. Beverly Bunch, IIPF Affiliated Faculty, was a panelist on the first webinar in a series featuring authors from Volume 5 of the Illinois Municipal Policy Journal. Dr. Bunch spoke on the topic of local government pensions in Illinois along with Amanda Kass from the Government Finance Research Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Professor Adriana Crocker named the first U of I System Presidential Fellow at UIS

University of Illinois President Timothy L. Killeen has announced that Adriana Crocker, University of Illinois Springfield professor of political science, will serve as the newest Presidential Fellow. Crocker is the first faculty member at UIS to be named a Presidential Fellow.

Associate Professor of Political Science Richard Gilman-Opalsky named the University Scholar

Richard Gilman-Opalsky, associate professor of political science at the University of Illinois Springfield, has been named University Scholar for 2018. The award, considered the university system’s highest faculty honor, recognizes outstanding teaching and scholarship. Only one faculty member receives the annual award at UIS.

Dr. Novak Featured in Ms. Magazine

Communication professor Dr. Novak was recently featured in Ms. Magazine for her recent article Working Women are Still Fighting Implicit Bias. The article discusses her research regarding women in the labor force, as well as her first time teaching an all-female graduate course.

About a year before Christine Mallinson gave birth to her first child, she and her husband agreed that all of their children would take her last name. The decision came down to family cohesion: The couple wanted their children—they eventually had two—to share a last name with the only cousin near their kids in age, who was Mallinson’s niece.

University of Illinois Springfield Associate Professor and chair of the Department of Political Science Sibel Oktay, Ph.D., has been named a nonresident senior fellow of public opinion and foreign policy at The Chicago Council on Global Affairs. She joins the ranks of scholars from prominent universities across the United States.
