UIS volleyball (9-10, 1-5 GLVC) competed in the Midwest Regional Crossover at Hammond Sportsplex over the weekend, finishing 2-1 on the weekend. The Prairie Stars secured a convincing straight-set victory over Kentucky Wesleyan and faced Tiffin, where they fell in four sets.

Illinois Springfield faced its toughest test of the weekend in the morning match against Tiffin, falling in four sets 25-21, 25-17, 18-25, 25-17.
The UIS women's tennis team opened competition Friday at the Dwight Davis College Open in St. Louis, advancing multiple players in singles play.
In Friday's opening singles rounds, Ema Norma Bordean cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 victory and will face Hallie Jeffers Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Alisha Deogaonkar also advanced with a 6-3, 6-0 win and will meet Amber Edmonds in her next match at 8:30 a.m.
The Illinois Springfield men's tennis team opened play at the Dwight Davis College Open on Friday in St, Louis, advancing five players to the quarterfinals in their respective singles flights.
In Flight A, Pablo Herrera earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Arkhip Tokmakov and will face Eric Kuo on Saturday morning. Antonio Ayerbe Streubel advanced as well, winning 7-5, 5-0 before his opponent retired. He will meet Shaan Patel in his next match on Saturday.
The Illinois Springfield men's soccer team fell 2-1 to Maryville at home on Friday night, despite second-half scoring. The Prairie Stars drop to 2-8-3, 1-7-2 in GLVC play.
The match began with the UIS establishing a defensive stance, which was highlighted by Landon Amick's save in the 28th minute from a shot by Sebastian Weitlaner. Robin Lemke Bergseth tested the Saints' defense, with two attempts on goal, both saved by Steen Nielsen. Despite these efforts, neither team managed to score in the first half.
UIS women's soccer fell to Maryville on Friday at Kiwanis Stadium by a score of 2-1, now holding a record of 3-7-3, 2-6-2 in conference play.
Despite a defensive start, the Prairie Stars earned three corner kicks in the first half. The UIS defense, anchored by goalkeeper Gigi Yurevich, held firm and prevented the Saints from capitalizing on their lone shot by Gina Catanzaro, which went wide left in the 27th minute.
The Prairie Stars maintained a strong defensive stance, preserving the scoreless tie heading into the halftime break.

The first set was point-for-point nearly the entire way, with the teams tied 24-24 late. UIS took the lead after a Lakers attack error and a Kaitlyn Taylor service ace, then finished the 27-25 set on back-to-back kills by Madison Siefken. The Prairie Stars held a 15-12 edge in kills in the frame, with five service aces helping secure the early advantage.

The UIS volleyball team split a weekend at home last week, defeating William Jewell before falling to Rockhurst. The Prairie Stars now enter a midseason break from GLVC play as they head to Hammond, Ind., for the Midwest Regional Crossover. The tournament features 11 GLIAC teams, 13 G-MAC teams, and 14 GLVC programs competing over two days.

The UIS men's soccer team returns to Kiwanis Stadium for home games against Maryville on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. and McKendree on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2:30 p.m. Last weekend in GLVC play, UIS earned a hard-fought draw with the No. 20 team in the nation but fell at UMSL on Sunday, dropping to 1-6-2 in conference play.
Friday night's game is the team's #WeAreStars matchup, giving Prairie Stars across the athletic department a chance to support one another and boost the atmosphere at Kiwanis Stadium.
