Greetings! Here are some important updates and announcements from the UIS Office of Human Resources:

Supervisor Development Series

This monthly series is off to a great start with over 30 people attending the Workers’ Compensation Session in January. This month’s session will be a Supervisor Bootcamp and will be held on February 22 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm in the Student Union Ballroom. This session will cover all the essentials a supervisor must know to lead and manage successfully. We have 52 available spots for this session, so please RSVP here.

A tentative schedule of upcoming sessions is included below:

  • February 22: Supervisor Boot Camp
  • March 29: Hiring Student/Grad Employees and Interns
  • April 26: Annual Evaluation Training

These sessions will begin at 9:00 am. Locations, speakers, and length of sessions TBA.

Employee Recruitment

Did you know that Human Resources regularly attends job fairs in the Springfield community to raise awareness about job opportunities at UIS? In January, we attended a community job fair at Saint Patrick Catholic Elementary School. In the coming months, we will participate in the UIS Career Connections Expo and in The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce Job Fair. If you have any suggestions for additional job fairs we should attend, please email us at hremployment@uis.edu.

Belonging, Dignity and Justice

As announced in the Chancellor’s Update from February 6, UIS has created a website to keep everyone updated on our initiatives and resources related to Belonging, Dignity and Justice at UIS. We encourage all members of the campus community to reference this website for news, resources, and initiatives focused on belonging, dignity and justice.

New Hire Checklist

If you are onboarding a new employee, provide them with a great start by utilizing the newly updated New Hire Checklist for Supervisors. This checklist outlines important steps for the hiring unit to take after an employment offer is accepted, prior to the first day of work, on the first day of work, and beyond.

Job Aid for Cornerstone

Thank you to everyone for your patience as we continue to fine tune our processes regarding our applicant tracking system. We continue to work with the vendor as issues arise. Please remember that a Job Aid is available to assist you in learning these new processes. This Job Aid is a work in progress, so if you have additional suggestions, please contact us at uishr@uis.edu
