Illinois Springfield dropped a three-set match at Maryville on Friday evening, falling 25-13, 25-22, 25-20 at Moloney Arena in St. Louis. The Prairie Stars (12-13, 4-8 GLVC) totaled five service aces and had two players finish with double-digit kills.
Maryville used a late first-set surge to pull away after UIS kept things tight early behind swings from Madison Siefken and Makenna Cox. The Saints took advantage of a handful of UIS miscues to close out the opening set.
The Illinois Springfield women's basketball team opened its season on Friday with a 77-61 road loss at Hillsdale, a game that remained tight through three quarters before the Chargers pulled away with a 26-point fourth frame.
"We won't be about moral victories for long this season, but I'm proud of the fight and toughness we showed tonight." said head Coach Olivia Birt. "We had them on the wire going into the fourth and proved we can compete. We're excited to get back on the floor tomorrow!"

The newest Prairie Stars include Addie Stehlik, Avery Miller, Emily Webb, Haley Maretti, Malea Helmink, and Mylee Tracy—a group head coach Shannon Guthrie describes as athletic, driven, and high-achieving both on and off the field.
The Illinois Springfield men's basketball team travels to Kenosha, Wis., this weekend for Wisconsin-Parkside's Conference Crossover event. The Prairie Stars will open the season against Roosevelt at 4:45 p.m. on Friday before facing Parkside at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The UIS Men's Basketball program has signed two high school seniors in the Class of 2026 on National Signing Day. Joining the Prairie Stars are Luke Blackford from Springfield Calvary in Springfield, Ill., and Terrell "Tre" Watkins from Metea Valley in Aurora, Ill.
The UIS volleyball team hits the road in GLVC play this weekend, taking on Maryville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Missouri S&T at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Prairie Stars enter the weekend with their GLVC Tournament hopes still alive and an experienced squad looking to close the regular season strong.
