The University of Illinois Springfield athletic department has achieved a GPA above 3.50 for the third consecutive semester, continuing a strong tradition of academic success among Prairie Stars student-athletes.
In spring 2025, 238 student-athletes combined for a 3.55 GPA. Every team posted a GPA of 3.25 or higher, with 70% of programs surpassing the 3.50 mark and 35% reaching 3.80 or better.

Miller completed the 10,000-meter race in 38:01 at the CSU ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado, located around 5,000 feet above sea level. Racing at altitude was a first for Miller and several others in the field.
The UIS Athletic Department proudly recognizes members of the Class of 2025 who are affiliated with Prairie Stars Athletics. This year's group includes seniors and graduate students who exhausted their athletic eligibility, former student-athletes who returned to complete their academic journey at UIS, individuals who will remain on campus to pursue further education while continuing to compete, and assistant coaches from multiple programs.
Three Prairie Stars have been named to the 2025 Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Midwest All-Region baseball teams. Catcher Ivan Dahlberg and first baseman Mark Kattula earned first team recognition, while shortstop Ethan Bowers landed on the second team.

Madelyn Miller of UIS women's track and field will compete at the national championships in the 10,000-meter race on Thursday night and the 5,000-meter race on Saturday night. She will race just after 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time on both days, which is just after 9:00 p.m. Central Time for fans watching online from Illinois.

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced its All-Midwest Region teams on Friday, the first of three organizations to release all-region awards for the season. Four Prairie Stars earned recognition for their 2025 campaigns: catcher Ivan Dahlberg and first baseman Mark Kattula were named to the first team, while shortstop Ethan Bowers and relief pitcher Seth Masters earned spots on the second team.
The UIS Prairie Stars finished seventh out of 15 GLVC member schools in the 2024-25 Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner's Cup standings, earning 71 points in the competition. UIS also placed ninth out of 19 schools in the GLVC All-Sports Trophy standings.
After two seasons at the helm of the Illinois Springfield baseball program, Trevor Forde has stepped down as head coach. Assistant Coach Chris Rodriguez will lead the program for the time being.
UIS junior distance runner Madelyn Miller has officially qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, taking place May 22–24 at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo.
Miller will compete in both the 10,000m and 5,000m events. The 10,000m final is scheduled for 9:10 p.m. CT on Thursday, May 22, with the 5,000m final set for 9:05 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 24.
