The UIS Athletic Department has announced the addition of Shelly Camburn as its Director of Pawsitivity and official therapy dog.
Shelly is a 6-year-old mini goldendoodle who, along with her handler, Head Athletic Trainer Christopher Camburn, has been specially trained, evaluated, and registered through Pet Partners to provide therapy animal visits to anyone interested in the physical, social, and emotional health benefits of the human-animal bond.
The UIS athletic department has announced the hiring of Laura Ulrich as the next head coach of the Prairie Stars volleyball program. Ulrich officially joins UIS in August 2025 and brings more than a decade of NCAA Division II coaching experience to the Prairie Stars.
The UIS athletic department has named Henrique Leal as the new head coach of the men's and women's tennis programs. Leal comes to UIS after coaching stints at Averett University and Catawba College, bringing experience as both a student-athlete and collegiate assistant coach.
UIS Athletics, in partnership with Jimmy John's at 219 S. 6th St. in Springfield, recognized eight student-athletes and one team during the 2024-25 academic year through the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month awards and the Jimmy John's Academic Team of the Year honor. This marked the second year of the partnership and the continuation of the recognition program.

The UIS athletic department has announced the hiring of Josh Edison as the new head coach of the Prairie Stars men's and women's golf programs. Edison, a Springfield native, steps into the role after previously serving as a volunteer assistant with the program.
The Illinois Springfield men's and women's tennis teams have been recognized with academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for the 2024-25 academic year.
Both programs earned ITA All-Academic Team status. The women's team posted an impressive 3.89 GPA, while the men's team recorded a 3.64 GPA. To qualify for the award, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
The Illinois Springfield cross country and track & field program has finalized its roster for the 2025-26 season. Ten newcomers have joined the Prairie Stars, including three women and seven men.
