Illinois Springfield senior Madelyn Miller-Ross was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

At the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 30, Miller-Ross recorded a personal-best time of 16:28.26 in the 5,000 meters, finishing as the fastest Division II competitor in the event. Her performance currently ranks No. 1 in the GLVC and No. 12 nationally in Division II. That time is also another program record for the senior from East Moline, Ill.

Illinois Springfield senior pitcher Rosie Bartletti was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday, after a dominant performance in UIS' season-opening win at Roosevelt.

Bartletti tossed a complete-game shutout, leading the Prairie Stars to a 3-0 victory on Friday afternoon. She limited the Lakers to just three hits across seven innings, striking out five and allowing no runs while improving to 1-0 on the season.

UIS fell at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, but the No. 3 pairing of Lukas Pieringer and Antonio Ayerbe Streubel earned a 6-3 win.

The UIS men's tennis team opened its spring season Saturday with a 5-2 loss at Tiffin.

Tiffin claimed the doubles point, though UIS picked up a win at No. 3 doubles as Luke Pieringer and Antonio Ayerbe Streubel posted a 6-2 victory.

UIS earned two points in singles play. At No. 1 singles, Pablo Herrera rallied for a three-set win, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Luke Pennington added the Stars' second point with a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles, winning 6-4, 6-0.
