Due to winter weather conditions, we are providing an update regarding campus operations.
Information for Employees
The Liberal Leave Policy will be in effect on Monday, Jan. 6. Employees are advised to use their discretion when determining whether it is safe to commute to and from work in inclement weather.
- Remote Work: Employees who can perform their duties remotely may work from home with supervisory approval.
- On-Site Work: Employees whose roles require on-site work and who are unable to commute due to weather conditions should use appropriate leave benefits.
- Notification: Employees must notify their supervisor if they are unable to report to work. Normal leave reporting processes and requirements apply for weather-related absences.
Office Hours Adjustments
If your department adjusts its operating hours or in-person services due to weather, please complete the Office Hours Update Form (select the temporary disruption to operations box). Changes will be posted on the Emergency Office Hours page. Only one designated person per office should submit changes. Please avoid sending mass emails to announce office hour changes.
Snow Parking Day
Effective Monday, Jan. 6: To assist the university in snow removal, we ask all students and employees to park in an area plowed regardless of the parking hangtag purchased.
During a Snow Parking Day, vehicles parked in standard permit lots (blue stripes) with economy permits (yellow tags) will not be ticketed for unassigned lot violations.
Snow Parking Days do not allow unauthorized parking in spaces requiring a special permit (e.g., ADA spaces, reserved PERKS) or prohibited parking areas such as emergency and fire lanes. Vehicles will be subject to ticketing and towing for unauthorized or unsafe parking.
All residential parking lots for on-campus residents have 24/7 access to their lots. The university will clear the snow in the residential lots as efficiently and safely as possible.
An email will notify everyone daily if the university has subsequent Snow Parking Day(s). We encourage everyone to check your UIS email daily before you arrive on campus. If you have any questions, please contact Parking Operations at parking@uis.edu or 217-206-8502.
