Understanding your Financial Aid Offer

We all know the cost of college and the aid you receive is a huge part of choosing where to go to college. That’s why we focus on making the process as transparent as possible so you fully understand what’s available to you, and you can make informed decisions that best fit your needs and goals.

If you’re reading this article, it’s likely that you’ve applied to and been accepted at UIS, or you’re the parent of a future Prairie Star. Congratulations! The next step is to view your Financial Aid offer. It tells you what state, federal and institutional aid is available to you. It will include scholarships, grants, loans and student employment, too.

The UIS Financial Aid office outlines in detail everything you need to know about your financial aid offer, and what to do next, but here are a few frequently asked questions.

  1. When will I receive notice of my estimated financial aid offer? Admitted students will receive an email notification as soon as late January or early February.
  1. Where do I access my offer? Once they receive an email notification, students can review the details by logging into Student Self Service.
  1. What will be in my estimated offer? The first section provides your cost of attendance and financial need, based on your FAFSA. The second section shows awards you are offered. The third section provides info about next steps to receive your offered award(s).
  1. How do I accept or decline financial aid? You will receive another notification soon to accept or decline your offer. Watch your university email for follow-up info.
