The UIS men's track team will compete in distance events at the GLVC Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend, with the 5,000 meters serving as Saturday's primary event.

The Prairie Stars will send three runners in the 5,000 meters. Freshman Charlie Borlin, sophomore Dominic Cantarini, and junior Matt Padilla will race in heat one, while Isaac Cortes and Owen Whelan will compete in heat two. Medals and all-conference honors are determined by overall event results across heats, as there are no preliminary rounds in the championship distance events.

Two freshmen will be important athletes to watch on Sunday. Borlin will return to race in the 3,000 meters, where he will be the only freshman in the field. Another freshman, Chase Cooley, will make his GLVC championship debut in the mile and is seeded in the fast heat, providing valuable championship experience early in his collegiate career.

Also competing in the 3,000 meters are Will McGonigcal and Whelan, who will join Borlin in heat one.
