The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) released its 2025 men's soccer postseason awards on Tuesday, and Illinois Springfield forward Robin Lemke Bergseth was selected as the league's Freshman of the Year — the first player in UIS history to receive the honor.
Bergseth made an immediate impact in his debut season, appearing in 17 games with 12 starts and logging 1,131 minutes. He tied for fourth among all players in GLVC-only matches with six goals and finished the season tied for seventh in the conference with six goals while also contributing two assists. He was additionally selected to the All-GLVC Second Team, and is UIS's lone all-conference performer this season.
Senior defender Mitch Olenick was recognized as the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honoree for UIS, given annually to student-athletes who best display the values of sportsmanship on and off the field. He is now eligible to become one of the 2025-26 Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners for UIS, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
