The Springfield area is forecasted to receive its first significant snowfall Sunday through Monday. The university does not anticipate any changes to campus operations; however, this is the time of year to reacclimate ourselves with UIS’ inclement weather procedures.
As a matter of policy, UIS does not close due to inclement weather except under the most extraordinary conditions. However, periods of inclement weather often result in conditions that make travel difficult and at times hazardous.

All faculty and staff are invited to a Holiday Happy Hour from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, in the Student Union Ballroom. The event will feature music, drinks and appetizers to celebrate the season. Release time will be in effect.
The University of Illinois Springfield and UPI Local 4100 Non-Tenure Track Faculty Union began negotiating the union’s first contract in March 2024, and on March 19, 2025, reached a tentative agreement on a three-year contract.
