SPRINGFIELD, IL (February 6, 2023) – The spring semester of competition for the UIS Speech and Debate Team began this past week at a competition hosted virtually by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. UIUC hosted their annual competition entitled the Hot Cocoa Classic this year. The tournament involved nineteen schools representing nine different states. Returning competitor Clark Morgan entered impromptu speaking at this competition and placed 5th.

"I am incredibly proud of Clark" says director of the team, Timothy Bill. "He puts in a lot of work each week preparing for this event and is starting to advance to final rounds on a consistent basis."

The University of Illinois Springfield Speech and Debate Team is committed to training the next generation of civic leaders, public speakers, and communicators who are passionate about creating change in their communities.
