SPRINGFIELD, IL (February 7, 2022) – The UIS Speech and Debate Team participated in the Gone Hollywood Tournament hosted by California State University – Los Angeles. This asynchronous tournament featured competition from 28 schools from across the nation.

Novice competitor Meghan Vlcek entered extemporaneous speaking, an event where students construct speeches and answer questions regarding current events and stories in the news. Vlcek had to content with questions ranging from the potential invasion of Ukraine to inflation to the 2022 midterm elections in the United States. Vlcek continued to receive high marks for her speeches and her strong analysis.

University of Illinois Springfield Speech and Debate Team is committed to training the next generation of civic leaders, public speakers, and communicators who are passionate about effecting change in their communities.
