SPRINGFIELD, IL (March 6, 2023) – The final regular season tournament for the UIS Speech and Debate Team was hosted virtual by Southwest Minnesota State University. Their Online Asynchronous Tournament Series (OATS) has been a staple of UIS's competition schedule this academic year. The OATS 6 Tournament had 56 teams in attendance, representing 25 different states. This was one of the largest regular season tournaments of the year.

Returning student Clark Morgan and first-year student Yasmin Palencia represented UIS at the tournament. Both students received high marks for their presentations. Morgan entered impromptu speaking and Palencia entered prose interpretation.

The University of Illinois Springfield Speech and Debate Team is committed to training the next generation of civic leaders, public speakers, and communicators who are passionate about creating change in their communities. The team is open to undergraduate students of any major.
