UIS Attends First Tournament of 21-22 Season

SPRINGFIELD, IL (November, 3, 2021) – The UIS Speech and Debate Team attended its first tournament of the 21-22 competitive season. The Online Asynchronous Tournament Series (OATS) is a season long set of competitions hosted asynchronously by Southwest Minnesota State University and a few partner institutions. The OATS 2 tournament took place from October 25th through October 29th.

Novice Meghan Vlcek represented UIS by competing in extemporaneous speaking. This was Meghan’s first competition experience and she earned strong marks in her event. She will incorporate these comments from the judges into future speeches to improve as a speaker and grow in competitiveness. The team’s next tournament will be OATS 4 in December.

University of Illinois Springfield Speech and Debate Team is committed to training the next generation of civic leaders, public speakers, and communicators who are passionate about effecting change in their communities.
