Good afternoon —

UIS announced June 17 that Shield COVID-19 testing would no longer be available on campus after June 29.

However, all higher education personnel and students who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 must still test once per week, in accordance with Executive Order 2022-14, which extends Executive Order 2021-22 (Section 4), through July 24.

UIS leadership is working to implement a plan to offer very limited Shield testing to unvaccinated personnel and students who are on campus beginning the week of July 11. For the week of July 4, unvaccinated staff, faculty and students should seek COVID-19 testing at a community testing location and provide their results as follows:

  • Staff and faculty should email a copy of their test result to aeo@uis.edu
  • Students should upload a copy of their test result to their Medicat patient portal or email uishealthservice@uis.edu.

Testing must be done using a laboratory test (no home antigen tests). Free Shield testing is available next week at SIU Medicine, 201 E. Madison St., from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Additionally, pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS offer laboratory tests but may require health insurance information.

Students who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and who pay the UIS Health and Counseling fee can reach out to UIS Health Services for a diagnostic test.

Please send questions to covid19@uis.edu. You also are welcome to attend the next COVID-19 briefing at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 7, to ask questions about our approach to testing for the remainder of the summer.

Additional information will be shared next week about the limited on-site Shield testing program for unvaccinated individuals.
