Road conditions in Sangamon County remained hazardous Thursday as Winter Storm Landon continued to dump snow on the area. More than 11 inches had fallen by Thursday afternoon.
The storm particularly created havoc with government and travel by car, train and plane.
Local highways continued to be called hazardous by police. They urged residents only to drive in case of an emergency.
Most schools in the area, including Springfield School District 186, the University of Illinois Springfield (on-ground classes) and Lincoln Land Community College, were closed Thursday. District 186 announced it was also closing school and its SCOPE child care program Friday.
