SPRINGFIELD, IL (April 3, 2023) - The UIS Speech and Debate Team had a record 2022-2023 season. This academic year saw the team reach its largest size in a decade with 12 students becoming part of the organization. The team also competed in nine virtual competitions throughout the season.

Over the course of the season, team members received excellent comments and strong scores from judges for their performances. Returning student Clark Morgan also earned two awards in impromptu speaking, placing 5th at the Hot Cocoa Classic hosted by University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and 6th at the Good Life Tournament hosted by the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.

"The team continues to grow and improve" says Director of Speech and Debate Timothy Bill. "More folks are getting involved with the team and each speaker is getting more competitive. I think we will have an incredible season next year. We're already working on presentations for the fall semester."
