Dear Colleagues:
As the end of the fiscal year approaches, I’m asking for your support in ensuring we remain good stewards of our financial resources. The University of Illinois Springfield continues to face a financial deficit, and our collective decisions play an important role in addressing it.
As you review your budgets, please avoid using remaining funds for unnecessary or non-essential purchases. Any unspent funds can be applied toward reducing our deficit and strengthening the university’s financial position.
The university has been transparent about its financial outlook. For several years, UIS has been working to address a multimillion-dollar structural deficit. Maintaining long-term financial stability will require continued focus on aligning revenues and expenses.
Since 2024, the university has been advancing the NorthStar initiatives alongside broader efforts to reduce costs, and your continued focus on limiting non-essential spending—especially as we approach fiscal year-end—remains an important part of that work. These steps are critical, and must be supported by thoughtful financial management across all units.
Thank you for helping position UIS for long-term success.
Jill Wilberg
Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration
