WHAT: The University of Illinois Springfield invites the public to a virtual lunch-and-learn panel discussion, “What You Voters Need to Know About the 2025 Government Shutdown.” The event will feature UIS faculty members Matt Geras, John Transue, Patty Byrnes and Ty Dooley, who will examine the causes and consequences of the ongoing partial government shutdown.

DETAILS: Panelists will discuss how interactions between Congress and the Trump administration led to a partial government shutdown that began Oct. 1. The conversation will also explore the shutdown’s far-reaching economic impacts and its potential effects on policymaking, partisan politics and campaigns for the remainder of President Trump’s term.
The event is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by the UIS Center for State Policy and Leadership and the UIS School of Politics and International Affairs. It will be recorded and shared afterward on NPR Illinois and with all registrants.
