Banned Books Week

Oct. 5 - Oct. 11

Brookens Library Main Floor

Banned Books Week is an annual celebration of the freedom to read. Although book censorship has occurred since the beginning of the printed word, modern-day challenges and bans of literature and other reading materials continue to this day, especially in public schools and libraries.

Browse our banned book display on the main floor of the library to learn more about books that have been challenged in the past, and check one out to read!

Banned Books Week Tabling

Monday, Oct. 6 from 10:30am-1pm

Student Union North Entrance Tables

Stop by the Brookens Library table to learn about the various book challenges that have happened around the country this past year. We'll be giving away buttons, stickers, and bookmarks to celebrate the freedom to read!

Overbooked Book Club

Friday, Oct. 10 from 1pm-2pm

Come join the library's book club! The them for October's meeting is banned books. Pick a banned book you've read in the past or want to read and come discuss with other students. If you don't have time to read, that's okay! You can still talk, hang out, and eat fall-themed treats. RSVP for this event.

And don't think we forgot about Halloween! If you need a haunting read for the spookiest season, check out our gothic fiction book display at the front of the library. It has all the gothic horror your heart could desire.

We hope you have a great month, and we can't wait to see you at our events and at the library!
