Tell us about your personal and professional journey.
The biggest experience that shaped me was my diagnosis of Aplastic Anemia in 2018. It delayed my graduation from UIS for a year and I learned so much about resilience and perseverance from it. It was a blessing in disguise though because it helped me land an internship with the UIS Athletic Department, which started my career working in college athletics. The experience also led me to God and growing my faith in Him.
Who or what has played a significant role in influencing or mentoring you?
My family has been instrumental in my personal and professional journey. They have supported me along the way, but also pushed me to do my best. I know I can talk to them about anything and get ideas or inspiration from them. I wouldn't be where I am today without them.
What accomplishments or contributions are you most proud of—professionally or personally?
I am most proud to have found God. My faith and walk as a Christian is extremely important and dramatically changed who I am as a person. It has even impacted my professional life (in a good way).
What advice would you share with other emerging professionals who want to make an impact in their field or community?
Don't be afraid to try new things. It can be scary to move to a new place or get a new job, but you never know how much you can grow and learn about yourself in the process. It might be hard, but it will be worth it.
Outside of work, what activities, interests, or passions keep you inspired and grounded?
I enjoy traveling to new places and trying new experiences and food. I am very involved in my church as well and learning what it means to be a servant of the Lord. I still play soccer from time to time and practice my cello when I get a chance. Overall, I just enjoy spending time with my friends and family.
