Tell us about your personal and professional journey.

My journey has been shaped by adaptability, curiosity, and a strong belief in the power of people.

I grew up in central Illinois, where I developed an appreciation for hard work, humility, and community. Those early experiences continue to influence how I lead and collaborate today. My leadership motto is “See, Strategize, and Stand for Goodness & Integrity,” a mindset rooted in Midwest values that guides how I show up, build trust, and lead with purpose.

My education at the University of Illinois Springfield played a formative role in shaping both my leadership style and career direction. I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration, graduated from the Capital Honors Program, and served as a resident assistant (RA) for two years. Through the Cap Program, I also worked as a tutor, reinforcing the importance of mentorship and clear communication. During graduate school, I served as a Graduate Assistant for Sangamon Auditorium, gaining hands-on experience supporting a complex, customer-facing organization.

As I completed graduate school, I interned with Horace Mann in Talent Development, which led to a full-time role and launched my career in Human Resources. Since then, I have intentionally progressed into roles with increasing responsibility where I’ve had the opportunity to lead and manage teams, design leadership and performance programs, and enable enterprise-wide transformation efforts.

Relocating to Houston and entering the energy industry marked a pivotal step in my growth as a leader. I’ve learned how to build credibility in new environments and lead through influence while growing my business acumen in a new industry. Today, my work focuses on developing talent, strengthening leadership capability, and helping organizations navigate change. My approach is rooted in the values and foundation I built growing up in the Midwest and as a UIS alum.

Who or what has played a significant role in influencing or mentoring you?

A manager early in my career played a significant role in shaping my career and growth as a leader. Matt Tucker mentored me as I began facilitating training programs, offering guidance, candid feedback, and encouragement as I stretched beyond my comfort zone. More importantly, he believed in my ability to lead others before I fully saw it myself. That belief turned into opportunity when he promoted me into my first people leader role, a pivotal moment that accelerated my development and shaped how I approach leadership today. His trust reinforced the importance of investing in others, recognizing potential, and creating pathways for growth. These are principles I now carry forward in how I lead, mentor, and develop others.

What accomplishments or contributions are you most proud of—professionally or personally?

I am most proud of the opportunity to influence organizations at scale in ways that make a meaningful difference for both leaders and employees. I take personal responsibility for designing development and performance management practices that are high-impact, practical, and intentionally low-disruption, so they strengthen capability without adding unnecessary complexity. Whether building leadership programs, evolving performance management, or supporting enterprise change, my focus is on creating systems that are clear, human-centered, and aligned to real business outcomes. Knowing that this work helps leaders show up better and enables employees to grow and succeed is what I find most rewarding.

What goals, projects, or aspirations are you excited about for the future?

I’m excited about continuing to grow as a people leader while expanding my ability to influence organizations at scale. I aspire to take on broader enterprise leadership roles where I can shape culture, develop current and future leaders, and support organizations through periods of change and growth. Ultimately, my goal is to continue doing work that balances results with purpose. I want to build environments where people feel empowered, trusted, and equipped to do their best work, while organizations become stronger, more resilient, and more human as a result.

What advice would you share with other emerging professionals who want to make an impact in their field or community?

My advice to emerging professionals is to “Get Comfortable in the Uncomfortable.”

Growth rarely comes from staying where things feel safe or familiar. The moments that stretch you, such as new responsibilities, unfamiliar environments, honest feedback, or roles you don’t feel fully ready for, are often the ones that shape you (and reward you) the most.

Be willing to raise your hand and take on opportunities that challenge you all while staying grounded in your values and focused on doing good work with integrity. Impact comes from combining courage with consistency. Show up, learn quickly, and be dependable over time.

Outside of work, what activities, interests, or passions keep you inspired and grounded?

Outside of work, my family is what keeps me most inspired and grounded. My husband and I met at UIS, where he earned his master’s degree in computer science, making UIS a meaningful part of both our personal and professional stories. I’m a mom to two littles, a four-year-old son and a newborn daughter, and motherhood has deepened my empathy, strengthened my patience, and sharpened my perspective. It has taught me to lead with intention, prioritize what matters most, and show up with greater clarity and care.

Is there anything else you’d like us to know as we celebrate you as a Promising Prairie Star?

UIS played a meaningful role in shaping both who I am and who I continue to become. The relationships I built, the mentors who believed in me, and the opportunities I was given challenged me to grow with confidence and integrity. Being recognized as a Promising Prairie Star is both an honor and a responsibility, and I’m proud to represent UIS as I continue to grow in my career and as a leader, mom, and alum.
