National Coming Out Day

Join us for our annual celebration of National Coming Out Day! We will be celebrating on Monday, October 12th, 1pm-3pm in the UIS Studio Theatre. This event honors the national day that occurs on October 11th.

National Coming Out Day is held annually to encourage and empower people in their coming out process and commemorates the 1987 National March on Washington for LGBTQIA+ equality. UIS celebrates with the "Closet Door" event. Participants are encouraged to walk through the door and share a story, speak words of encouragement / support, or why they are allies to the LGBTQIA+ community and those with marginalized gender and sexual identities. Speaking is completely voluntary so feel free to show your support or pride with your attendance. This year's Queertober theme is "Building Community, Finding Home" so come join us!

For any questions or specific accommodations, we encourage you to contact us at 217-206-8316 or gss@uis.edu.
