ACUE Insights: Developing Equitable Grading Processes

This workshop, led by Kyle Blount, Assistant Professor of Ecohydrology, will highlight common pitfalls in grading processes and introduce equitable grading principles and practices (i.e., what are they and why you should use them). Participants will choose a grading practice, brainstorm how to effectively implement it in a course, and provide feedback within small groups.

Overview of the ECCE Program

Alan Freedman, Assistant Professor of Health Sciences and Chair of the University Requirements Committee (URC) will discuss the ECCE program and the ECCE Speakers’ Series.  The role the University Requirements Committee (URC) in the evaluation and approval process of ECCE-designated courses will also be reviewed.

Cate Denial on "A Pedagogy of Kindness"

Join us for a discussion with Cate Denial (Knox College) on her new book, A Pedagogy of Kindness. “Part manifesto, part teaching memoir, part how-to guide, A Pedagogy of Kindness urges higher education to get aggressive about instituting kindness, which Denial distinguishes from niceness.

All faculty and staff are invited to a Holiday Party from 4 to 6 p.m., Dec. 18, in the Student Union Ballroom. There will be music, drinks, and appetizers to celebrate the season. Release time will be in effect for this event.

The next Civil Service Advisory Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd, at 10:00 am. The meeting will be held in BRK 141A (ITS) and streamed via Zoom at the link below. All civil service employees are welcome to attend.

Join CSIL for a discussion with Cate Denial (Knox College) on her new book, A Pedagogy of Kindness. “Part manifesto, part teaching memoir, part how-to guide, A Pedagogy of Kindness urges higher education to get aggressive about instituting kindness, which Denial distinguishes from niceness. Having suffered beneath the weight of just “getting along,” instructors need to shift every part of what they do to prioritize care and compassion for students as well as for themselves.”

Semester Debrief

Join the Center for Faculty Excellence for an end-of-the-semester debrief! This is an opportunity to enjoy some complimentary coffee and cookies and to chat about the challenges and successes of the semester. What new approaches to teaching did you try? What worked? What didn’t? What are you seeing in the classroom that inspires you? What are you seeing that you didn’t expect? What plans are you making for next semester?
