Students are invited to travel to Beardstown and participate in the community’s annual celebration. Transportation will be provided by Diversity Centers staff. Pick-up and drop-off will take place at the Diversity Centers in Student Life Building 22. Advance registration is required on UIS Connection. Register by Saturday, September 12th 12pm to confirm transportation. Please bring cash to pay for any items or food you would like to purchase.

Join the Hispanic/Latinx Initiative and Baile Monarcas in a traditional hair braiding experience! Students will learn how braided ribbons were used for practical purposes, as well as how hairstyles could communicate cultural identity, social status, and marital status, while experiencing the tradition through a fun, hands-on activity. If you do not want to have your hair braided there will also be hair clips and scrunchies to enjoy!

During the opening, a student leaders and campus member will share a story or a powerful moment that connects them or their organization to the month of celebration. It’s a chance to learn, connect, and celebrate the cultures that make our community vibrant and unique.
