The UIS Web Team is excited to share that we are actively working on a comprehensive redesign of the University of Illinois Springfield website, with an anticipated launch in Fall 2026. This redesign represents a major investment in improving the usability, accessibility, and overall experience of the UIS web presence for students, faculty, staff, and the broader community.
Why a Redesign?
Over time, user expectations, technology standards, and accessibility requirements evolve. The upcoming redesign will modernize the UIS website’s structure, visual design, and functionality to better support our campus goals. Our focus includes:
- Improving navigation and usability
- Creating a more consistent and intuitive experience across pages
- Enhancing accessibility and compliance with current standards
- Building a flexible foundation for future growth and updates
Accessibility Compliance: A Top Priority
In parallel with the redesign effort, the Web Team is prioritizing compliance with new U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) accessibility requirements, which have an April 2026 deadline. These updated requirements reinforce the importance of ensuring that digital content is accessible to all users, including individuals with disabilities.
Meeting these standards requires careful review, testing, and remediation across the existing site. Over the coming months, our team will be dedicating significant time and resources to accessibility improvements to ensure UIS remains compliant and committed to inclusive digital access.
Pause on Theme Updates
To effectively balance these two major initiatives—the website redesign and DOJ accessibility compliance—the Web Team will be pausing all theme updates until the new site design is launched in Fall 2026.
This pause allows us to:
- Avoid duplicating work that would be replaced by the new design
- Focus our efforts on accessibility remediation and compliance
- Ensure a smoother, more cohesive transition to the redesigned site
Content updates, routine maintenance, and accessibility-related fixes will continue during this period, but visual or structural theme changes will be deferred.
Looking Ahead
We appreciate the campus community’s patience and cooperation as we work toward these important goals. The result will be a more accessible, modern, and user-friendly UIS website that better serves everyone.
Additional updates will be shared as the redesign progresses. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the UIS Web Team.
