WHAT: Sangamon Experience at the University of Illinois Springfield will premiere the original documentary, “Sangamo Country: 200 Years of Sangamon County.” The film features local researchers and citizens discussing the history of the county and sharing stories that have often been long forgotten.

The documentary is a production of Sangamon Experience and the Sangamon County Bicentennial Commission, cooperating with the Sangamon County Historical Society.

WHEN: Noon Thursday, May 5, 2022

WHERE: UIS Studio Theatre, located on the lower level of the Public Affairs Center

DETAILS: The film was created to celebrate Sangamon County’s Bicentennial and features local historians and citizens who have researched and written accounts of historical events in the county.

Seating for the premiere is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. All visitors are encouraged to park in visitor-designated lots and pay the visitor parking rate of $1 per hour by means of the nearest parking pay station. Pay stations accept coins and credit and debit cards only. Designated visitor lots closest to the Public Affairs Center are Lot C North and Lot D.

Opened in 2020, Sangamon Experience’s mission is to provide a broad perspective of the history of the Sangamon region through the presentation of a wide variety of exhibitions and activities developed for and from multiple communities.
