UIS is an organization-rich campus with clubs that every student can enjoy and get involved in. Whether you are looking to get involved in weekly events or monthly events, there is something for everyone to enjoy! With lots of different events happening each week, you can participate in various activities and see if you’d like to join.

One of my favorite clubs is Baking Club. Baking Club is an organization on campus that hosts events once or twice a month where we bake a variety of different sweet treats! From cake jars to pumpkin spiced cinnamon rolls, to cookie decorating with Chancellor Gooch, there are many different goodies to make throughout the school year. While there are leadership opportunities within the club, my favorite part is that it’s a low-maintenance club. It’s a great club where you get to de-stress and make a delicious treat at the end! You can go to every event, or just the ones that interest you and still have fun.

The Student Activities Committee (SAC) is another favorite on campus. SAC focuses on hosting a lot of different events for students to get away from schoolwork from time to time. SAC is the club that puts together one of the biggest events of the school year- Springfest! Springfest is a great way to compete in a variety of different challenges throughout the week with your friends (and try to get first place and win some fun prizes)! They also host other events like late-night breakfast around finals week, which is perfect for those late-night study sessions! SAC has meetings throughout each month where students can participate and give ideas for what they’d like to see on campus, which is the best part!

Active Minds at UIS is an organization that hosts events around the importance of mental health. This is one of my favorite clubs, because I value having time to de-stress between classes and work. The events have a pretty laid-back atmosphere and give students the perfect vibe to just relax by yourself, with friends or with the other people attending the event. From blanket making to paint nights, and care-package making events, there is something for everyone to enjoy and relax with. They plan all of these events while keeping mental health in mind, in an effort to de-stigmatize it, so we can all live happier and healthier lives!
My favorite organizations are those that help me relax and forget about my academic stress for an hour or two. It’s great to know that organizations on campus are always hosting events for students to de-stress after all of the hard-work we put into our classes. To find other organizations and events to join, check out UIS Connection and get involved in the fun!
